At this time, some problems still exist with the delivery of broadcast HD
signals. Some of those problems lie within our equipment (new equipment to
eliminate them is being tested) and some of them lie with the broadcast TV
station. For example, WEWS has turned off their HD signal for extended periods
of time without explanation or warning and WNEO periodically has a bar across
the screen. We continue to work on our own equipment and with the broadcasters
to resolve these issues.
One of the things to keep in mind is the fact that HD channels are not always
HD. They are digital, but not HD. I feel certain you will recognize quickly
when a program is in HD by the way it appears.
| • | Four channels (HDNet, HDNet Movies, NBC/Universal HD and Discovery Theater HD) are HD virtually all the time. |
| • | The three broadcast network channels (WOIO, WEWS and WJW) and ESPN HD include a lot of converted standard definition programming. |
| • | There is no guide for the broadcast channels or ESPN HD that designates which programs are not HD. |
| • | Most commercials are not HD |
| • | Much of the primetime lineup is HD, but many sporting events are not. |
